In the bustling heart of Las Piñas, the vibrant and nostalgic theme of a Midcentury Summer came to life on May 18 and 19, as Salo Salo hosted its second event, Salo Salo: Days in the Sun. This gathering, held at the charming Balay Kobo, was a celebration of togetherness and community, embodying the spirit of connection and shared experiences.

Featuring curated brands founded by passionate twentysomething entrepreneurs of UA&P’s Entrepreneurial Management Program class of 2024: Bram Ascan of Tous, Bianca Dumlao of Anca Boutique, Renee Villaflor of Shakels and Margot Magat of Through Habit Cafe Salo Salo is envisioned as a “vibrant space” where relationships are nurtured, not just between sellers and buyers, but within the entire community.

Last year, Salo Salo event took place at Sine Pop in Quezon City last December, setting a high bar with its eclectic mix of vendors and interactive experiences. Attendees were treated to sculptural ceramics by Justine Basco, natural wines from Anybody, Filipino street food of Pepita’s by Ameerah Dumigpe, and the creative make-your-own-bouquet booth from Nora Flora. This thoughtful curation of activities and vendors sparked conversations and built new relationships, setting the tone for future gatherings.

Continuing this unique event, Salo Salo: Days in the Sun brought together 47 carefully curated brands, each contributing to the theme of a Midcentury Summer. The event showcased a delightful array of summer-related products, from chic clothing by Anca to food products by Shakels, and plant-based fresh coffee from Through Habit Cafe. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the picturesque, dappled sunlight setting of Balay Kobo, which provided a perfect backdrop for a weekend of nostalgia and connection.

A space of conversations and connections

The organizers’ vision for Salo Salo extends beyond commerce. Local fashion brands and start-up brands in general were more intimate, as they engaged with attendees in lively discussions, shared their stories, and forged new friendships. For the organizers, the event was not just about shopping; it was about creating a space where people could come together to share dreams, insights, and meaningful moments.

One of the highlights of the event was the communal spaces set up for interaction and relaxation. These areas encouraged guests to take a break from browsing the stalls and immerse themselves in conversations over a refreshing drink or a delicious bite to eat. The casual, laid-back environment made it easy for people to connect, whether they were catching up with old friends or meeting new ones.

Charting paths to thrive ahead

Looking ahead, the founders of Salo Salo are excited to continue this journey, with plans to host more events that bring people together in unique and inspiring ways. Whether it’s through a new theme or a different venue, the essence of Salo Salo remains the same – to create a vibrant space where people can connect, share, and grow together.

As we look forward to the next Salo Salo event, we can be sure that it will once again be a place where conversations thrive, and community flourishes.
